It has thin walled, erect yellow culms with green stripes and large yellow striped leaves. It requires good growing conditions, protected area free from frost, well-drained soil, well fertilized and regular watering.

This bamboo tends to flower annually and sporadically therefore, if conditions are not ideal the stress of it all can become too much for the plant that will flower itself to death. Makes an excellent ornamental feature plant.
